Depression & Anxiety

How do I know if this is depression or anxiety?

Take a moment and notice if you can relate to any or several of these:

  • I feel restless or on edge like I can’t relax
  • My mind races with worries and it’s hard to quiet my thoughts
  • I feel nervous or fearful, even without a clear reason
  • I have trouble sleeping because I can’t stop thinking about everything
  • I experience physical tension, like tight muscles or a racing heart
  • I feel sad or empty most of the time, like there’s no joy in anything.
  • I’ve lost interest in things I used to enjoy, and nothing feels fun anymore
  • I am constantly tired no matter how much I rest or sleep
  • I feel worthless or guilty, even when I haven’t done anything wrong.
  • I have trouble concentrating or making decisions, even with simple tasks.

When you’re feeling anxious or depressed, it can affect your thoughts, emotions, and daily life in ways that feel overwhelming:

You used to enjoy spending time with friends, but lately, you’ve been canceling plans because you feel exhausted and uninterested. Getting out of bed in the morning feels like a struggle, and even the simplest tasks seem overwhelming.

At work, it’s hard to concentrate, and your mind keeps racing with worries—about your job, relationships, or even small things that never used to bother you. At night, you either can’t sleep because your thoughts won’t slow down, or you oversleep but still wake up feeling drained. Your appetite has changed—you might eat too much for comfort or barely eat at all.

You tell yourself to “snap out of it,” but no matter how hard you try, the heaviness and restlessness won’t go away. Even when you’re around people, you feel disconnected and alone, wondering if things will ever feel normal again.

If this sounds familiar, know that you’re not alone. Support is available, and things can get better.
